You Spin Me Up Down, Baby, Up Down
Like a Lepton, Baby, Up Down Down Down
The Quantum Dragon likes his qubits like he likes his records… with spins. That means he’s super excited to have already played — for FREE — with QuTech’s relaunched Spin-2 device, available through Quantum Inspire. And it’s not alone! The superconducting Starmon-5 has been retired, but Starmon-7 has taken its place.
IQT NORDICS EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT ENDS 20 FEBRUARY
The Nordics region largest quantum computing conference and exhibition takes place 20-22 May in Gothenburg, Sweden. IQT Nordics rotates annually amongst Denmark, Finand and Sweden. Significant savings are available for those registering by 20 February. IQT Nordics includes a fabulous cruise on the evening of 21 May and a tour of the quantum lab at the Chalmers Institute of Technology. Check out the speaker program at www.iqtevent.com.

IQT NORDICS 2025 ANNOUNCES FOUR ADDITIONAL SPEAKERS
IQT Nordics is fast approaching in Gothenburg, Sweden – May 20-22 at the Chalmers Conference Center. Four more speakers are announced: Robert Rehammar (Scalinq); Mikael Rönnholm (Volvo Group); Lisa Rooth (Scalinq); and Lorenzo Roversi (IonQ Europe). Registration and sponsorship information can be found at www.iqtevent.com.

IQT Research Report Predicts that by 2030 Entangled Network Revenues will be $1.2 Billion and Grow to Reach $6.1 Billion in 2034
In its newly released report “Entangled Networks: Enabling Technologies and Future Markets”, IQT Research forecasts that Entangled Network revenues will be $118 million in 2025 but grow to $1.2 Billion in 2030. By 2034, the IQT Research team says that revenues from this part of the quantum technology business will reach $6.1 billion.
Atomic Cake
Infleqtion celebrated its birthday by making a cake out of individual atoms. Truth be told, The Quantum Dragon’s favorite cake flavor is rubidium. He’d love to taste a few other neutral species, but he’s only been able to get a few tastes of rubidium thus far. Sadly, ytterbium ions made him ill. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
OK Qubit
Dr. Mark Jackson left a brilliant comment on Dr. Bob Sutor’s post about a new online dating service that uses quantum computing. HitoMatch should seriously consider rebranding to OK Qubit if it really wants to capitalize on “quantum.” This link might require a LinkedIn account.
A lethal combination?
That’s a heck of a way to characterize AI + Quantum, but AIM did it. Technically, there are people sounding alarms in both camps. Interestingly, though, neither the post nor the infographic have any negativity other than that headline. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
The Dracarys Award: Boson 4
For withstanding The Quantum Dragon’s relentless assault — and even forcing him into submission — I do hereby proclaim Boson 4 the recipient of The Dracarys Award. Alice & Bob’s Boson 4 joins Q-CTRL’s Fire Opal as only the second recipient of this aspiringly-prestigious award.
Two Hundred Thirty Million Dollars
QuEra Computing just raised a hefty sum of capital, and the company has deliberately NOT disclosed its valuation. The Quantum Dragon, however, is a mystical carnivore that knows well the scent of unicorn meat. It goes well with white wine. Fortunately, the two can be friends because the dragon likes to snack on rubidium atoms.
Physics Explained… with LEGOs
You can always count on Prof. Chris Ferrie to explain things in interesting ways. Boy, do I wish I could do that! But unfortunately, the best I can come up with is this: “This is a good article. You should read this article. Clap, share, and follow for more good articles.” This link requires a Medium account.
China’s Mightiest Quantum Computers
I found China’s latest and “greatest” (giggle giggle) quantum computer, and that requires an update…. The moral of the story is that whenever China makes bold claims about its quantum computers, you should enjoy a hearty chuckle and then move on. You definitely shouldn’t give them the benefit of the doubt.
Perplexity is perplexing.
Thanks to a post by Steven Vaughan-Nichols and a comment by Dr. Bob Sutor, I decided to give Perplexity a try. When I searched for it using Edge, my whole screen was consumed by a Microsoft suggestion that I use Copilot instead. #hilarious. My 1st impression of Perplexity is that it got the OpenQASM2 for a Bell state wrong.
Roadmap for the Debate about Quantum Computers
Gil Kalai published a “debate,” and I really like this format. There are points, counterpoints, and even some rebuttals. There are also points that are in agreement, which every debate should ideally have. And there’s also some discussion in the comments; won’t you join in?
Commercialize Quantum Technologies in Five Years
Google is in the news for predicting that commercial quantum computing applications are only five years away. This tweet shares the Nature article where that prediction was made. It was published on March 9, 2017, so in 3 weeks, that prediction will be 8 years old. This link might require a Twitter account.
A Boatload of Cash
The February 13, 2025, edition of Dr. Bob Sutor – Quantum and AI – Sutor Group earned a flight on The Quantum Dragon in only its second sentence. That’s efficiency, people. Speaking of telegraphing, anyone remember this video of QuEra’s Dr. Jonathan Wurtz on an actual boat?
Happy Lantern Festival! 元宵节快乐!
In celebration of a lantern festival, Nu Quantum arranged for a white dragon to dance outside the offices of Cambridge Enterprise. We’re all adults here, so let me just say that The Quantum Dragon is very, very interested in this post. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
No dragons are harmed in this slideshow.
Quandela is a French AI Action Summit laureate, but that’s not what earns real estate in this newsletter. The last slide of the post is about the Perceval Quest Challenge. The Quantum Dragon is relieved that the knights are fighting each other and not trying to slay one of his kind. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Quantum Valentine’s Day
Can’t find a card to send to your favorite quantumite today? Quantophile? Quantumist? What do we call ourselves? Anyway, Prof. Chris Ferrie has the book for you and your loved ones, friends, and colleagues. This link is to a free download. This link is to an inexpensive paperback.
Why Photonic Quantum Computing will be the First to Escape
I think Mark McGuire knows by now that an illustration of a cat with laser eyes is going to earn him a free flight on The Quantum Dragon. #wellplayed. But even without that, the links to a few open-source projects would’ve done the trick. This link should not require a Medium account.
Zapata AI Job Seekers
If you were laid off by Zapata AI and would like a free listing in this newsletter, please reach out and let me know. I’ll maintain a list in The Quantum Dragon until everyone on the list has been gainfully employed elsewhere or is otherwise no longer actively job seeking. I might extend this offer to all job seekers, but I’ll start with these layoffs.
- Shawn Gibford Industrial PHDc: Quantum Applications in the Life Sciences
- Dr. Francesco Benfenati Quantum Solutions Engineer
Quantum Noise Detector
Alan Ho and Prof. Michael Biercuk inspired the Resuscitated Quantum Bullshit Detector, but the original(?) has resurfaced on Bluesky. It’s back to reposting a simple “bullshit” or “not bullshit,” so The Quantum Dragon will continue to monitor for challenges, controversies, and debates under this new name from Dr. Bob Sutor.
- Commercially useful quantum computing in 5 years? DARPA is studying whether it’s even possible within 8 years, “much faster than conventional predictions.”
- Why is it called “Qubits”? Dr. Graeme Smith noted the irony of D-Wave calling its conference “Qubits” despite having crappy qubits. I then pointed out that the conference is on April Fools’ Day.
